Take the ideas and concepts of old world Belgian breweries and blend them with modern brewing techniques and styles. We had one simple idea we wanted to live by. We invite you to go get any Colibre and share with us your experience. We came up with the notion of opening a brewery while homebrewing one Saturday morning in Curt's garage. With its 50 BBL brewhouse, Baja Brewmasters is not only big, but they also produce some of the finest tasting craft beers you can find in the market, such as Finisima and our very own Colibre. This opened the doors for brewers to keep producing their beer and make it available to beer lovers.Īfter this, the craft beer producers kept growing, making some of the best brands available to people and some of the finest beers produced by strong independent companies, such as Baja Brewmasters, which was founded in 2016 by JJ Feregrino.īaja Brewmasters is the largest independent brewery in Mexico, and it serves the North American market as a turnkey solution for contract brewing and private label manufacturing. The Federal Commission of Fair Competition (CFC) ruled a law where the two biggest beer companies, Grupo Modelo and Cuauthémoc Moctezuma, couldn’t force exclusivity of their brand’s beer sale. But in 2013, something crucial for craft breweries happened. When you ordered a craft beer at these places, they would put it in a red solo cup, so people at Tecate wouldn’t carry legal action against the company. ![]() Most of them had to sell Tecate beer in their businesses because of contractual exclusivity. The assistance toll was 2,700 people and 27 participant brewers. It was done in 2011 and it helped local brewers to grow their connections and build a community. This festival was the first of its type in Baja California. “I made my first beer in a pewter pot in my house using grain I have always said that this beer is the best I have ever made in my life, and the truth is that I fell in love with the process of making beer, of being focused on the temperatures, the times, the environment, the humidity.” says Paco Talamantes, a brewer whose mission is to promote craft beer in the region and founder of the Baja Beer Fest. Of course that over time, their passion led them to read specialized literature on the subject, and, of course, gradually acquiring the minimum equipment to be authentic homebrewers. Most of them took their first steps thanks to information found on the Internet and YouTube. Guided by a sense of experimentation and learning and motivated to find flavors, textures, and aromas not found in commercial beers, they began to cook small batches of this drink at home as a hobby, sharing the result at parties and with friends. In Ensenada, several of the future brewers had already come into contact with this beer offered in the bars of downtown San Diego. During the first decade of the new century, and new proposals for craft beer began to appear in Baja California, influenced by the craft wave that had developed in the United States back in the 1980s, especially in southern California.
